Report: Eddie Howe would rather Newcastle United sign 'unreal' World Cup winger than Jack Harrison now

Eddie Howe would rather Newcastle United sign World Cup winger Leandro Trossard than Leeds United’s Jack Harrison, according to TeamTalk

Newcastle headed into the World Cup as one of the best teams in the Premier League and sit third in the table.

Howe’s men haven’t tasted defeat since the 2-1 loss at Anfield in September and will be looking to build on their brilliant start.

The Magpies were linked with a move for Leeds winger Harrison over the summer, with FootMercato claiming they even tabled a £33.5 million bid for the Englishman.

But of course, Harrison has remained at Elland Road for now and Newcastle have been linked with Trossard since.

The Belgian star has been in devastating form for Brighton this season and has bagged seven goals in 14 Premier League appearances.

His form has led to Newcastle tracking him at the World Cup, with journalist Lee Ryder claiming Howe’s men are keeping a close eye on him.

Belgium may have crashed out at the group stages in Qatar but Howe is seemingly convinced that he wants Newcastle to sign the 28-year-old.

Howe would rather Newcastle sign Trossard then Harrison

TeamTalk reports that both Chelsea and Newcastle are exploring the possibility of signing Trossard in either January or next summer.

The Magpies are apparently showing the strongest interest in the Belgian, with Dan Ashworth keen to bring him to St James’ Park.

Howe is a big fan of Harrison but is an even bigger admirer of Trossard and would prefer to sign the Belgian winger – providing he is available.

Newcastle were clearly in the market to bolster Howe’s attacking options over the summer but only managed to bring in Alexander Isak.

It seems likely that they will once again focus on this area of the pitch and Trossard would certainly be an ‘unreal’ option for them.

The winger’s contract is set to expire in the summer but TeamTalk notes that Brighton do have an option to extend this by 12-months.

Even if Brighton do extend Trossard’s deal, Newcastle could complete a cut-price deal for the Belgian as he will only have a year left on his contract by the time the summer window opens.

It would be a big boost for Leeds if Newcastle do go for Trossard over Harrison. While the Whites man hasn’t been at his best this season, he remains a key player in Jesse Masrch’s side.
