Arsenal and Spurs are both set for a blow in the transfer market it seems, with Dusan Vlahovic set to commit to a new contract with Fiorentina.

Vlahovic has emerged as a target for the North London duo in recent weeks, with reports just this weekend suggesting Arsenal and Spurs were interested.

A £51m deal has been touted, as Fiorentina looked to bring in big money for the young forward, should he want to leave.

But according to Calciomercato, Vlahovic has agreed a new contract with Fiorentina, with the report claiming everything is done barring the signature.

Whether it simply means Fiorentina are inserting a new clause into his contract higher than the £51 mentioned, or whether it means Vlahovic is actually staying put for the long-term, remains to be seen.

However, it does represent a significant development for both Arsenal and Spurs. Vlahovic scored 21 times last season to further enhance his reputation as one of the best young strikers in Europe.

Stumbling blocks

This is smart from Fiorentina, regardless of his Vlahovic stays put or not.

If he does end up leaving – which seems unlikely to be honest – then the Viola can add even more to the asking-price. It means Arsenal and Spurs would need to find mega money, surely above the £51m.

If he does stay, and does well again, it only strengthens Fiorentina’s position further. And if they add a huge release clause, then clubs will simply have to meet it next summer.

For Arsenal and Spurs, this will be a spanner in the works. Paratici and Edu, then, could choose to move swiftly on here.
