Duncan Ferguson has told Everton that he does not want the managerial job on a permanent basis, The Liverpool Echo reports.

Ferguson is the caretaker manager at Everton after Marco Silva was sacked last week. The Scotsman, who is a popular figure among Everton fans, took charge for the game against Chelsea last weekend.

Everton reversed a poor run of form and picked up a 3-1 win over Chelsea. Ferguson showed passion with his celebrations and had Everton’s men playing for the badge again.

The Toffees are still considering their options to replace Silva as manager. It has been confirmed that Ferguson will remain in charge when Everton travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United at the weekend.

However, Ferguson has made it clear that he is not seeking the job on a full-time basis. The former Everton striker is happy to take charge as interim manager but the Merseyside club will need to look elsewhere for Silva’s successor.

TBR’s view

This could be an arrangement that works well for Everton. Ferguson has brought a feelgood factor back to Everton – something that was missing under Silva.

He can keep things ticking over until Everton find the right man for the job. Ferguson’s win over Chelsea has bought some time for the Everton board to get the next appointment right.
