Report: Diego Simeone now looking to sign ‘extraordinary’ Arsenal player for his Atletico Madrid side

William Saliba has made his senior France debut before his Arsenal bow and is a man in demand this summer.

French outlet L’Equipe claim that Atletico Madrid are among the clubs chasing the defender, who is currently on loan at Marseille.

They say that the Ligue 1 outfit will try and get the centre half for another season but Atletico are circling and preparing for the summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta is clearly not 100 per cent convinced by the Frenchman, having preferred that he continues his development away from Arsenal.

Diego Simeone’s side are arguably the most organised defensive unit in European football and pushed Manchester City all the way in the Champions League quarter-finals.

That speaks to the quality of Saliba and if he went there, he would get a real defensive education, full of intensity and discipline.

Saliba’s season with Marseille earned him his French bow, as well as praise from Matteo Guendouzi, a man who is very familiar to Arsenal fans.

“Physically, he wins all his duels,” Guendouzi said.

“He’s very fast, very powerful. And what people maybe see a little less is what he does with the ball. It’s extraordinary, he finds great passes and he’s a very important player for us.”
