Report details whether Kane will 'down tools' if he is forced to remain at Tottenham under Nuno
Harry Kane could end up staying at Tottenham Hotspur. It would hardly be surprising, given Daniel Levy will only sell the England skipper if his price tag is met. A report from Football London discusses whether Kane will ‘down tools’ under Nuno Santo, if he does remain at Tottenham next term.
Kane, 27, is currently preparing for England’s Euro 2020 semi-final against Denmark on Wednesday night at Wembley. The Tottenham striker has rediscovered his shooting boots, scoring three goals in his last two outings for the Three Lions. He was on the scoresheet twice against Ukraine.
Manchester City continue to pursue a move for Kane. While they are unlikely to meet his £150million price tag, they are willing to break their club record – Ruben Dias at £65million – to get Kane. They will probably have to include a player or two to convince Levy into accepting an offer.
That is according to Football London, who also discuss whether Kane will ‘down tools’ at Tottenham if he does not get his move. The report says that Kane is ‘not expected’ to down tools if he does remain at Spurs under Nuno. Of course, he has been at Spurs since he was a child.
If Kane stays, how will the Tottenham squad react?
When a player wants out, but he remains, it can leave a bad smell in the dressing room. Dimitri Payet’s desperation to leave West Ham saw the team turn against him and it cause a divide. It happens regularly. But given that Kane is a well-liked figure at Spurs, and a leader, it is unlikely.
You also get the impression that because Kane has shown so much loyalty to Spurs, and that he is a consummate professional, it will not cause a rift. Things will be just like normal, even if Kane does stay at Spurs over the course of the next few weeks and months.
