French website RMC Sport have delivered a potential West Ham boost in the reported pursuit to sign Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko – as Bakayoko’s loan side Monaco have set their sights elsewhere.
Bakayoko, 25, has spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Monaco – returning to the club where Chelsea initially spent £35million (Telegraph) to sign him in 2017. HIs future is likely to be up in the air this summer again.
Indeed, towards the end of last month, Le10Sport stated that West Ham had joined AC Milan and Monaco in pursuit of the France international – with Bakayoko seemingly surplus to requirements at Chelsea.
But the latest report states that Monaco will not take up a permanent deal for Bakayoko – instead targeting Pescara’s Franck Kanoute. It leaves West Ham with just AC Milan as competition – and the latter are struggling for funds.
TBR’s view – Bakayoko would be a stunning West Ham addition
It is no secret that West Ham need another midfielder. Even if they complete a permanent deal for Tomas Soucek, they still only boast the Czech ace as well as Mark Noble and Declan Rice as proper options.
Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez have spent more time than not in the physio’s room since joining West Ham, and both have been linked with exits this summer. Josh Cullen could also leave, as he remains on loan at Charlton.
Bakayoko would solve an issue at West Ham, but not only that – he would inject pace and strength into a midfield that badly needs it. He would be an excellent signing.
