Tottenham Hotspur have a plan in place to potentially secure the signature of Juventus defender Mattia De Sciglio this summer, according to a new report.

TuttoMercatoWeb is reporting that the Italian international is a player Jose Mourinho is fond of. Considering his ability to play all along the back-four, it is clear to see why Tottenham would be keen given their defensive issues.

In order to try and sign him, Tottenham could offer Juventus a swap deal involving Danny Rose. The England international is currently on loan at Newcastle United and appears to have no long-term future in North London.

De Sciglio has been told he can leave Juventus in the next transfer window and is keen on a move abroad. Juventus could also be keen on Rose, as first-choice left-back reinforcements such as Marcelo of Real Madrid or Emerson of Chelsea may be out of reach.

However, Rose has previously spoken of a desire to be closer to his home in Yorkshire, making a potential move to Italian football seem unlikely.

De Sciglio was earmarked as the next Paulo Maldini when he first emerged (ESPN) at AC Milan but has not developed the way many hoped. However, the 27-year-old still has 39 caps for his nation and is a solid defensive full-back option that Mourinho appreciates.

If Tottenham could put together a straight swap deal then this would be a no-brainer move from the club this summer.
