Report details potential Tottenham boost as Arsenal unable to afford Premier League star

Arsenal are reportedly unlikely to sign Norwich City right-back Max Aarons due to the financial restraints of the current suspension of football – and that may hand Tottenham Hotspur the chance to sign the English ace.

Goal claim that Arsenal are likely to opt against signing 20-year-old Aarons with the right-back expected to cost too much. SoccerLink claim both Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in signing the England Under-21 international.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Aarons is expected to cost around £30million, and could even cost that figure if Norwich get relegated. Other clubs have been loosely linked, including French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

But the latest report states that Arsenal are unlikely to meet Norwich’s valuation and instead will sign Cedric Soares permanently or promote Jordi Osei-Tutu. A potential boost if Tottenham are serious about signing Aarons, then.

TBR’s view – Tottenham need Aarons more than Arsenal

Hector Bellerin is Arsenal’s best right-back and is some distance ahead of Tottenham’s best right-sided defender in Serge Aurier. The only issue with Bellerin is that he is prone to injury, proved once again this season.

If The Gunners are to have a limited pot of transfer funds this season, then they are right to ignore signing Aarons and spend their limited money elsewhere – perhaps on a replacement for Mesut Ozil, a centre-back or even a new striker.

Spurs, meanwhile, need a right-sided defender to at least rival Aurier and Aarons can more than do that. Mourinho needs Aarons more than Arsenal, so the latest news is good for Spurs.
