Report details Nahitan Nandez’s stance, amid claims Leeds are ready to activate midfielder’s release clause

Leeds United are reportedly ready to pay the £30million release clause inserted in Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez’s contract. But a new report, from CalcioMercato, has plunged a move into doubt be detailing the stance of Nandez over a move to Leeds this summer.

Nandez, 25, remains a target for Leeds. Clearly, Marcelo Bielsa is an admirer and Leeds have never been better-positioned to sign him. Cagliari finished in a lowly 16th place last season, while Leeds were inches away from European football.

According to La Nuova Sardegna, Leeds are ‘ready’ to activate his £30million release clause – a club-record move. But a new report from CalcioMercato states that Nandez is not convinced by Leeds. It also says he will wait until the end of his participation in the Copa America before making a decision.

Nandez stance a blow, he would be the ideal Leeds midfield addition

Firstly, Leeds need cover for Kalvin Phillips. Last season, they were without their midfield heartbeat for nine league games – and only picked six points up from a possible 27 in his absence. However, Phillips will clearly be first choice – meaning cover needs to be able to play further forward, too.

That is what makes Nandez ideal. He is able to play as a four. But he is versatile enough to play as a six, or an eight. His engine is just what Bielsa likes in a midfielder. £30million is a fair price, but it seems he will take some convincing.
