Leeds United were left disappointed this week by the FA’s ruling regarding talented under-23 midfielder Jordan Stevens. The 19-year-old has been banned from all football-related activity after breaching betting rules.
In an official statement, Leeds United’s chief executive Angus Kinnear said the club were ‘hugely disappointed’ with the ruling as they feel more should be done to support the youngster.
As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Stevens was suffering with homesickness and anxiety after making the move to Leeds from his home in Gloucestershire last February.
Considering his struggles and youth, Leeds hoped for leniency that was not forthcoming.
The Daily Mail is now reporting on how Stevens will be occupying his time during his stay away from the club.
They report that Leeds had wanted to offer him an office job at Thorp Arch, but were not allowed due to the strict nature of his ban.

Instead, Stevens has returned to his family home and will train twice a day at a gym before his ban ends on October 10th.
TBR’s View
Leeds United are right to stand by their young player. At just 19, the mental strain of moving so far from home cannot be underestimated and it is clear that it has heavily impacted Stevens.
The hypocrisy of the FA, who are so intrinsically linked with betting culture through sponsorship, to hand out such a harsh punishment to a teenager is clear for all to see.
Hopefully, Stevens can maintain his fitness and find his feet when he returns to Leeds in October. He will undoubtedly have the support of all the fans at Elland Road.
