A deal Everton pulled off in the summer has reportedly ‘embarrassed’ the club who let him head to Goodison Park.
That is according to a report in The Sun, who claim Real Madrid are wary of making a similar mistake to the one they made with James Rodriguez with Martin Odegaard.
The Norwegian is heading to Arsenal on loan but the Gunners will not have the option to buy him at the end of the loan spell. Real do not want to lose him on the cheap and be left disappointed if he turns out to be a star at The Emirates.
Everton’s deal for Rodriguez is said to be the trigger for this mindset.
The Colombian was allowed to join Everton on a free transfer in the summer with Real deciding he had no future at the club and deciding to get him off their wages.
He has since impressed at Everton, helping Carlo Ancelotti’s side to an impressive campaign in the Premier League so far.
Of course, Everton fans are grateful that Rodriguez was allowed to leave Real on a free and it has clearly been a successful move.
Other than some disappointing defensive displays James has been a hit at Goodison Park and Everton fans are pleased that Real Madrid made the decision to move him on.
Unfortunately, for Arsenal, it means Everton’s move for James might just make their own negotiations a little more difficult.
