The Athletic’s Phil Hay has detailed Marcelo Bielsa’s stance on Gjanni Alioski’s future at Leeds United with the player currently scheduled to leave Elland Road at the end of the season when his contract expires – amid links with Galatasaray.
Reports from Turkey claimed during the January window that the club’s bitter rivals Galatasaray had ‘agreed’ a move for the Macedonia international – as per Turkish outlet Fotomac. But that has since been played down.
His contract remains up in the air, despite impressing for Leeds. The 28-year-old flyer has started 13 consecutive Premier League matches for the Whites, becoming the club’s left-back as Stuart Dallas continues to cover his teammates elsewhere.
With everyone fit, it is likely that Dallas plays at left-back over Alioski – but Mateusz Klich has been dropped for the last two league games. The report claims Bielsa is desperate to keep him, and the club continue to be in talks for Alioski.

TBR’s view – Alioski deserves a new deal at Elland Road
His performances have been excellent of late. Not only has he proved solid defensively, but he has struck up a good partnership with Jack Harrison on the left – and has even scored three goals in all competitions this term.
Starting in the Premier League and retaining his place, it is a no-brainer for Leeds to keep him. For Alioski, does he want to stay? Question marks surround his plans – given that he may fancy a return to a club closer to home. Time will tell.
