New Derby County manager Phillip Cocu is a big fan of Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell. According to The Daily Mail, Derby will make a late attempt to sign Dowell from Everton.
Huddersfield Town have been pressing ahead with their attempts to sign Dowell on loan from Everton. The midfield playmaker is likely to leave Everton on loan again this summer.
Last season, Dowell won promotion with Sheffield United, scoring twice and providing one assist in 17 matches. In the season prior, Dowell was at Nottingham Forest.
During his time with Reds, the England U21 starlet scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 43 games to add to his growing reputation.
But he is yet to break into the Everton first-team under Marco Silva. Last season, he was limited to a few cup appearances before joining Sheffield United in January.
Dowell is now set for a third loan spell in the Championship but Derby have made a late swoop to beat Huddersfield to the youngster. Cocu will reportedly use his relationship with Everton chief Marcel Brands to get this deal done.
Dowell could thrive at Derby, who will be lacking that creative spark in midfield after Mason Mount and Harry Wilson’s loan deals ended. Dowell is a proven Championship talent who could get better under Cocu.
Whether he has a future at Everton depends on this season. The 21-year-old is running out of chances to step up and he needs to catch the eye on loan if he joins Derby or Huddersfield.
