Report: Depay to decide future next week; Tottenham interested

Memphis Depay is set to make a decision on his future next week, with Sport reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are one of the teams interested in a deal for the Dutchman.

Depay’s future appears to have been uncertain almost ever since the moment he walked through the doors at Camp Nou. He joined the Catalan giants on a two-year deal.

His contract expires at the end of the season. And Sport notes that Barcelona had been willing to let him go on a free transfer during the summer. Now however, their stance has changed.

Depay to decide future next week

According to Sport, Xavi wants Depay to stay for the rest of the season. And with that, the 28-year-old’s representatives know that he will only be allowed to leave in January if a club is prepared to make an offer and he pushes to move on.

There is interest. Sport claims that Manchester United, Juventus and Roma want Depay. Meanwhile, Tottenham are also in the running to sign the forward.

And his admirers will soon learn if a January move could be on the cards. Sport suggests that Depay will make a decision next week as to whether he wishes to stay or leave.

Depay has been away at the World Cup with the Netherlands. He scored once in five appearances as Louis van Gaal’s side made it to the last eight in Qatar.

Depay appears to be an incredibly sensible target for Spurs. He has done well during his time at Barca, scoring 14 goals for the club since his move.

His contract situation means that he will probably not cost a huge amount.

There may be more exciting names linked with Antonio Conte’s side in the coming weeks. But Depay is a ‘world-class‘ performer with a contract running down.

So if he gives the green light to a potential exit next week, Spurs should arguably look to swoop in.
