Dele Alli’s future at Tottenham Hotspur remains uncertain, with the Daily Mail reporting that the midfielder is yet to learn from Jose Mourinho why the chance to leave on loan in the summer was blocked.

It has been a turbulent time for Dele in North London. He has made just one Premier League start this term, while he has only made one further appearance from the bench in the top flight.

His lack of game-time prompted questions about his Tottenham future while the summer window was open.

The Daily Mail reports that Paris Saint-Germain made three loan offers for the 24-year-old. And it is suggested that they would probably be keen again if he is made available in January.

Interestingly, the Mail adds that Dele is yet to find out why he is not playing from Mourinho. And he also remains in the dark over why he was not allowed to leave in the summer.

TBR View: Mourinho may be testing Dele

It is proving difficult to see what exactly Mourinho is trying to do with Dele. There is no question that the England international could be a fantastic player if he can rediscover the early form that he showed at White Hart Lane.

But something is not clicking for Dele – who earns £100,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – right now. And yet, Spurs were not prepared to loan him out in the summer. And the player himself reportedly remains unaware as to why he stayed put.

So perhaps, it is possible that Mourinho is testing Dele.

Mourinho’s treatment of Tanguy Ndombele left many perplexed last term. But the Frenchman is now producing some superb performances and some moments of real quality.

It may well be that Spurs now have no qualms about letting Dele leave in January. But maybe, there is a chance that Mourinho is actually hoping that this situation leads to Spurs seeing the best of Dele once again.
