Report: Deal expected as Celtic look to sign Joe Hart from Spurs

Celtic are expected to agree a deal with Spurs as they look to sign Joe Hart this summer, according to a report from The Athletic.

The Hoops are in talks with Tottenham about the 34-year-old one year after his arrival in North London.

Ange Postecoglou is looking to strengthen his goalkeeper options before the window shuts. Vasilis Barkas made a hugely costly error in the first-leg of their Champions League qualifier with Midtjylland this month.

Scott Bain meanwhile, does not appear to instil any more confidence in the Celtic fanbase.

So it is little surprise that the Bhoys are looking elsewhere. And it seems that Hart is likely to be the man to come in.

The Englishman is reportedly free to leave Spurs this summer. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have bolstered their ranks with a loan move for Pierluigi Gollini.

Of course, some may have their doubts about a move due to wages. Hart is on around £52,000-a-week, according to Spotrac.

However, that appears unlikely to derail a move. According to The Athletic, the expectation is that Celtic and Spurs will agree a deal.

It does appear that Celtic fans are divided over the prospect of signing Hart. They cannot afford to let the window close without adding another goalkeeper.

Having said that, Hart is not the goalkeeper he once was. He has endured a number of tough years. And he did not make a single Premier League appearance for Spurs last season.

Some may see parallels between that deal and the most recent move for Fraser Forster. At the time, the Southampton stopper’s career looked to be declining at an alarming rate.

However, he enjoyed a brilliant spell back with the Hoops. And thus, some may hold out hope that Hart could prove a similarly-inspired addition.

It does appear that fans will soon find out, with reports claiming that the expectation is that a deal should happen.
