Report: Danny Rose will not be forced into Tottenham Hotspur exit

Danny Rose will not be ‘sold against his wishes’ and has informed Tottenham Hotspur he will wait out the remaining year of his contract, according to The Times.

The England international left-back is currently on loan at Newcastle United and has agreed a short-term contract to finish the season with the Magpies.

The report claims that Tottenham will be looking to sell Rose this summer. However, it is also made clear that the headstrong Rose will not be pressured into accepting a transfer anywhere and would happily sit out the final year of his deal at Spurs, seemingly even if not being used in the first-team squad.

Rose found himself out of the first-team picture under Jose Mourinho’s management and the left-back told BBC Radio 5 Live in February that he felt he was not given a fair chance by the Portuguese boss.

“I do feel I wasn’t given as much of a chance as everybody else in the backline. I did want to play for him.

“I knew after a month [of Mourinho joining] I was never going to play. It was difficult going out to train knowing I wasn’t going to play.

“It’s not worked out, but full respect to him and what he’s doing at the club. He took over with the club 12 points adrift of Chelsea and now it’s four.

“I have to be honest, I thought I would continue playing.”

Rose is on a reported (Spotrac) weekly wage of £60,000 and Tottenham will no doubt want to get that off their books if Rose is not being considered as a first-team regular.

It is yet to be seen whether Newcastle would want him permanently, especially amid the continued speculation regarding the takeover of the club by a Saudi-backed consortium.

In the past, Rose has seemingly made it clear he has a desire to be back in the north of England, closer to his boyhood home in Yorkshire and that would appear to remain the case.

If that is true, then Tottenham will need to find a buyer in a certain area of the UK if they are to move Rose on this summer.

If not, then the headstrong defender looks set to rightfully dig his heels in.
