Turkish outlet Fotospor have claimed that Daniel Sturridge is set to leave SuperLig side Trabzonspor at the end of the season, despite having a contract until the summer of 2021 – and Aston Villa remain interested.
Sturridge, 30, joined the Turkish side in the summer after his contract expired at Liverpool. He has since clocked up 16 appearances for Trabzonspor, but has been completely overshadowed by Crystal Palace loanee Alexander Sorloth.
Indeed, the 26-time England international has scored seven goals in 16 games – as well as laying on four assists. But Sorloth has scored 24 goals in 34 games, with Sturridge managing just 11 starts since his move abroad.
Now, the report claims he is going to leave the club just halfway into a two-year deal at Trabzonspor – and states that Aston Villa are still interested in signing Sturridge. It remains to be seen if Trabzonspor release him, or request a transfer fee.
TBR’s view – Would Sturridge be a good signing for Villa?
Villa need fire power, especially after Wesley’s injury. The signing of Mbwana Samatta has been seen as an early success, but whether the Tanzanian ace remains at the club if they are relegated, is yet to be seen.
In Sturridge’s case, the striker is proven in English football and whether Villa do remain in the top tier of suffer relegation to the Championship – the former Chelsea and Manchester City star would be a top signing for the Midlands outfit.
