Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ‘stunned’ at the wage demands of Eric Dier as the club attempt to tie him down to a new deal at the club.
The England international is out of contract in 12 months’ time and Spurs will be hoping not to lose the versatile defender for free next summer.
However, as reported by the Daily Mail, Dier’s wage demands are said to be over double his current £60,000-a-week demands. Wages of over £120,000-a-week would put him among Tottenham’s highest earners.
Daniel Levy is said to be taken aback by the demands, especially amid the current financial situation brought on by the global health crisis.
What next for Dier?
It comes at a time when Dier has established himself as a firm favourite of current Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho. The 26-year-old is even playing in his preferred centre-back position and the report claims Mourinho is keen for him to sign a new deal.

But should Dier not sign that contract, then Tottenham will undoubtedly have to consider his sale this summer.
In February, the Daily Mail reported that Tottenham will sell Dier in the summer if a new deal is not agreed upon. In the past, Tottenham have allowed both Mousa Dembele and Christian Eriksen to enter the final year of their Tottenham agreements, resulting in below value January sales.
It is a mistake they will not want to make again. So, if they can find a buyer, Dier will surely be moved on by Spurs if he cannot come to terms on a deal with the club.
