Report: Daniel Levy performs u-turn, Tottenham now ready to let player go

The Athletic say Daniel Levy has changed his mind, and is open to Tottenham selling midfielder Dele Alli – ahead of the January window.

Dele, 25, has been another source of frustration for Tottenham fans this season – despite a promising start. He was left out of Wednesday’s squad.

The England international started the first six Premier League games, with Nuno Espirito Santo using him in a deeper midfield role.

But having been hooked at half-time against Arsenal, Dele has since lost his place in the side. He and Harry Winks were left out of the Burnley squad.

Nuno was right, clearly, as Spurs earned a 1-0 win and a place in the last eight of the Carabao Cup. But question marks remain, on Dele.

Indeed, a report from The Athletic on Thursday morning states that Levy has refused to let Dele go – with PSG keen in the summer of 2020.

Levy refused a move then, and in January 2021. But now, it appears he has changed his tune and is willing to see the back of the ex-MK Dons man.

Dele needs a Jesse Lingard-like move. He needs to join a club for the second half of the season that gives him the freedom to shine, like West Ham did.

Lingard was struggling for game time, and becoming somewhat of a laughing stock at United. But he reinvigorated his England career.

Dele needs to do exactly the same – but at which Premier League club? Leeds United could do with a no.10, as could Everton.

Newcastle are likely to have the money to get him, while Aston Villa and Leicester could also do with Dele. Staying in England is key.

Any mid-table side looking to push into the top eight would love Dele – and so they should. But he must pick wisely, ahead of January.
