Midfielder Dani Ceballos has reportedly been in contact with Real Madrid about possibly bringing an end to his loan spell at Arsenal.

According to Cadena SER, the Spaniard is desperate for game time given the European Championships are just around the corner.

Ceballos hasn’t played for Arsenal since November, and has not been used by Mikel Arteta despite being in training since Christmas. He’s made the bench for the last couple of games but hasn’t seen any minutes.

His absence has been a little surprising, and apparently the 23-year-old has been disappointed.

Real have already recalled a couple of their players that had been on loan at clubs in 2019/20 – Jesus Vallejo’s spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers was ended early, while goalkeeper Lunin and winger Jorge de Frutos have also been brought back.

TBR’s view – Arteta should start playing Ceballos

Amid the talk he could go back to Spain, now is a good time for Arteta to start calling on Ceballos for the first time in his reign.

He showed at the start of the season how talented a player he is, and he could be a source of inspiration for the Gunners, who are struggling to record wins.

Arteta’s arrival has sparked an improvement in performance, but results have been quite average and Ceballos could be the fresh impetus the team needs.
