Arsenal have been handed a potential transfer blow with the news that Dani Ceballos has apparently instructed Real Madrid to engineer a move to Real Betis for him.
The report, from Spanish outlet, Mundo Deportivo, claims that Ceballos is only interested in a move to Betis if he cannot break into the first XI under Zinedine Zidane.
Ceballos’ stance will be a bitter blow to Arsenal and their boss, Mikel Arteta, who is a massive fan of the Spaniard following his impressive finish to the season last term.
The classy central midfielder was integral as the Gunners won the FA Cup and scored a vital late winner at Sheffield United in the quarter-finals.
It was widely expected that Ceballos would come back to The Emirates. Indeed, just yesterday, Defensa Central claimed Ceballos had actually got his heart set on a return to Arsenal.
However, it now looks as if he might have had a change of heart once again. Although it remains to be seen just what the future holds for Ceballos.
Will he, won’t he? This will rumble on for a bit yet – TBR View
This sounds like a bit of a farce for Arsenal and not the simple transfer deal Mikel Arteta and Edu would have been hoping for.
Ceballos was settled with the Gunners and was even an integral part of the first XI under Arteta. It seems odd, then, that he’d simply squash the notion of a move back to the Premier League.
Obviously, he has a close relationship with Betis but they are nowhere near the level of Arsenal. It’s certainly an interesting one to see pan out and Arteta will be gutted if he does indeed miss out on the midfielder.
