Liverpool wonderkid Curtis Jones will be given the opportunity to captain his boyhood club next month.
According to Goal, Jones will captain Liverpool’s first-team in the EFL Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa. The game clashes with the FIFA Club World Cup and Liverpool will need two separate squads.
Jurgen Klopp and his first-team players will head to Qatar in mid-December for the Club World Cup. Liverpool’s opponents are undecided but they go straight into the semi-finals on 18 December (Wednesday).
Just one day before, Liverpool also have an EFL Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa. Jones will skipper the side as they step out at Villa Park for a place in the semi-finals.

Jones, who is a boyhood Liverpool fan, made his debut earlier this season. The 18-year-old played against MK Dons and picked up the man of the match award. His second appearance came against Arsenal in the last round and he scored the winning penalty for the Reds.
The next step in his career will be captaining the senior side against Villa. U23 boss Neil Critchley will be in charge and it will mainly be youth players featuring in the EFL Cup.
TBR’s view
Even though it will be a significantly weakened side, this is a major opportunity for Jones to shine. The talented teen can make a name for himself by captaining his youthful team to an EFL Cup quarter-final win.
The EFL Cup has been a huge learning curve for Jones in his fledgeling career. It has given him first-team opportunities and now he will take centre stage next month.
