According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace’s interest in Will Hughes is now at an advanced stage, with Newcastle and Burnley also keen.
What’s the story?
Well, wherever he goes, it certainly feels unlikely that Hughes will be a Watford player after the transfer window ends.
The 26-year-old is currently training with the Under-23 side, as he’s refusing to sign a new contract at Vicarage Road.
Hughes sees his current terms expire in 2022, so the Hornets must sell now, or risk losing him for nothing.
The Daily Mail claim that Patrick Vieira’s side are the most advanced in their pursuit of the £30,000-a-week maestro.
However, the Eagles refuse to increase their £5m bid, which could allow Burnley to steal in – the Clarets have made their own proposal to Hughes.
Newcastle are also believed to be considering a bid.
Crystal Palace and Newcastle must get bidding

We appreciate that nobody wants to break the bank for a player with just months remaining on his contract, but Hughes is worth it.
If Crystal Palace, Newcastle or Burnley can land the silky playmaker for under £10m, it would be a bargain in today’s market.
Hughes is in his prime at 26, and can boast plenty of top-flight experience with 77 Premier League appearances to his name.

He’s also someone who we feel could break into the England squad soon.
Gareth Southgate loves him, having managed him in the Under-21 setup.
Keep an eye on this saga, as a breakthrough is surely close with just days until the transfer window ends.
