According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (22/9; page 61), Crystal Palace are interested in signing West Brom full-back Nathan Ferguson after failing to land Reece James in the summer.
The Eagles are looking to bolster their defensive options after selling Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a £50 million deal during the most recent window. The Sun on Sunday reports that they failed with a move for James – with the Independent suggesting that they had a £25 million bid rejected for the Chelsea man.
And it appears that they have now identified their next target as they look to fill that area.
The Sun on Sunday (22/9; page 61) reports that Dougie Freedman has scouted Ferguson twice ahead of the January window.
The 18-year-old went into this season still awaiting the chance to make his senior debut for the Baggies. But Slaven Bilic has included Ferguson in six of his eight starting lineups in the Championship.
He has predominantly played in his more natural position of right-back. But he has also featured on the opposite flank on a couple of occasions for the Baggies.
It is a big statement that Palace reportedly view Ferguson as a potential successor for Wan-Bissaka at Selhurst Park. But if he builds on his bright start to life in the West Brom first-team, it would be no surprise to see the youngster gain more admirers by the time the January window opens.
