Report: Crystal Palace want maestro with 15 assists last season, but there's now a problem
According to the Daily Record, Sampdoria are now interested in signing Ryan Christie from Celtic, amid interest from Crystal Palace.
What’s the story?
Well, the 26-year-old soon finds himself out of contract. Strangely, his deal runs out in January, midway through the season.
The Daily Record recently revealed that Patrick Vieira is keen to bring Christie to Crystal Palace.
Interestingly, the Frenchman bid for the 20-cap Scotland international while managing OGC Nice, but a move never materialised.
Now, Sampdoria are keen, which provides a problem for the Eagles.
Under new management following Roberto D’Aversa’s arrival, the Italian side are keen to strengthen in response to missing out on Europe last term.
Sampdoria offering Christie a European adventure overseas could prove problematic for the Eagles, should they make an enticing bid.
Do Crystal Palace need Ryan Christie?
If we were speaking a week ago, we’d say yes.
Crystal Palace desperately needed more sources of creativity, and found an excellent solution in Michael Olise who arrived on Thursday.
As a result, we no longer feel Christie is required.
Celtic’s No.17 is a brilliant player, who impressively provided 15 assists last season.
However, Vieira has Wilfried Zaha, Ebere Eze and Olise to play behind the centre-forward, so it’s not guaranteed Christie will start – in our view.
One thing is for certain, however – whichever club signs the Scot will be getting a fine player.
