Crystal Palace are the latest club to emerge in the race to sign Liverpool striker Divock Origi, according to The Telegraph. West Ham and Wolves won’t go away either and would also be keen on the centre-forward.

The Eagles were thrashed 3-0 by Chelsea on the opening day of the season. Patrick Vieira has recruited smartly during the summer, although the opening day performance won’t have delighted him at all.

Of course, it’s only one game and Chelsea are looking like a formidable force this season. For Palace though, they do have a requirement for more goals to come from their striking options.

Origi has been with Liverpool since 2014. He checked in from Lille and after a loan with Wolfsburg, he started to showcase his talents at Anfield, becoming something of a cult hero.

His exploits as Liverpool won the Champions League during 2018/19 will never be forgotten. He scored twice in a 4-0 win over Barcelona and also notched the team’s second goal during a 2-0 win over Tottenham in the final.

Origi is unlikely to get a sniff of first-team action this season. Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Diogo Jota are all capable of brilliance and Origi just doesn’t fit into Jurgen Klopp’s style these days.

The £60,000-a-week player could do with moving on and Liverpool would welcome the chance to get him off the books.

Palace could benefit from Origi presence

With Palace boasting plenty of creative options, it seems clear that they could benefit from a new spearhead for their attack. Enter Origi.

The striker is still very capable but he needs to feel loved and he needs to play regular football under a manager who trusts him to do so.

Vieira could be that man and the 26-year-old could help Palace climb the league table and progress as a football club this season.

Origi could have West Ham and Wolves as options. Right now, however, Palace perhaps looks the best option for him to play football on a frequent basis.
