Report: Crystal Palace ready to make 30-year-old their highest-paid player; Vieira loves him
According to a report from CalcioMercato, Crystal Palace are ready to guarantee Aaron Ramsey the same wages he’s earning at Juventus if he agrees to join them in January.
The Welshman left Arsenal for Turin in 2019 and a lot was expected of him there. However, injuries and lack of opportunities have made his life miserable. The 30-year-old wants to leave now, and he’s not short of offers.
The report claims that Everton and Palace are both interested in his services. The edge Patrick Vieira’s side have in the race is that they are willing to offer Ramsey exactly what he’s currently earning at Juve, something the Toffees aren’t likely to do.
Crystal Palace ready to offer crazy wages to Aaron Ramsey
Crystal Palace have already shown that they aren’t scared to offer big money to players who they think deserve it. Wilfried Zaha, unsurprisingly, is their highest-paid player at the moment, earning a cool £130,000-a-week. (Spotrac)
Christian Benteke, who makes £120,000-a-week, is the only other Palace player earning six figures, but if the report is to be believed, Ramsey will become the Eagles’ highest-paid player if he agrees to join them.
The report says that Palace are ready to pay him what he’s earning at Juventus. According to Salary Sport, Ramsey currently earns an eye-watering £187,000 every week in Turin.
Ramsey would be a great player for Palace if he remains fit, nobody can deny that. However, paying close to £190,000-a-week in wages to an injury-prone 30-year-old makes very little sense.
Patrick Vieira loves Aaron Ramsey
Ramsey and Vieira both share the Arsenal connection and that could well be the reason why the Palace boss decides to go above and beyond to sign him.
If the Frenchman’s past comments about the Juventus man is anything to go by, we can confidently say he’s a massive fan.
Vieira said about Ramsey in 2014, as per The Daily Star: “Aaron has been terrific and fantastic. He has been the best and most consistent player in the Premier League.
“At the start of the season, he was fantastic because of the number of goals he scored from midfield but also the number of goals he created. If Arsenal are top it’s because he has been the best player since the start of the season.
“Credit to Aaron as well because even with all the injuries, he’s kept working hard, believing in himself and that he could make it. The ability has always been there and I’m pleased he is now showing what he is capable of.”
