Report: Crystal Palace now confident of signing Alan Shearer 2.0 as negotiations underway
According to the Sunday World, Crystal Palace are now confident of signing Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah before the transfer window ends.
What’s the story?
Well, after the Eagles announced the signing of Will Hughes before the clash with West Ham, another addition could soon be made.
The Sunday World believe negotiations between the south Londoners and the north Londoners are underway over a deal for Nketiah.
Crystal Palace are close to completing a permanent deal for the 22-year-old, who will become a free agent in June 2022 with his terms close to expiring.
The Sunday World believe the deal will suit all parties involved.
It’s a very exciting time for Crystal Palace.
Dougie Freedman is helping to fill the squad with some excellent young players, without breaking the bank to sign them.
Crystal Palace are getting Alan Shearer 2.0 in Eddie Nketiah
It’s an outrageous comparison, but they’re not our words.
Former England Under-21 boss Aidy Boothroyd has previously backed Nketiah to emulate Harry Kane and Alan Shearer.
The Arsenal striker has already outdone Shearer in one aspect, after beating his record of all-time top scorer for the England Under-21 side.
As quoted by talkSPORT, Boothroyd said: “You look at the career that Alan had and Harry Kane. He is in the company of those players I have mentioned which shows you how much I think about him and how much we think about him in the system.”
Sadly, Nketiah hasn’t really had the chance to prove himself at Arsenal, as Mikel Arteta is wedded to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
A fresh start away from north London is exactly what he needs.
Under an Arsenal legend in Vieira, but still living in London, Nketiah could soon be in the perfect environment to thrive at Crystal Palace.
