Crystal Palace are now leading the race to sign Kerr Smith, according to The Sun on Sunday (23/5; page 59), after previous claims Aston Villa were in pole position.

Smith looks to be destined for the Premier League this summer. The 16-year-old made his senior debut earlier this season and now has a handful of first-team appearances under his belt with Dundee United.

The Scottish Sun reported earlier this month that the Villans were pushing to get a deal done. It was claimed that he could join for around £500,000 plus add-ons.

However, it now appears that Dean Smith is in danger of missing out on his namesake.

According to The Sun on Sunday (23/5; page 59), Crystal Palace are now leading the charge. It is noted that the Eagles have previously landed Scott Banks from the Scottish Premiership side.

It looks set to be an incredibly busy summer at Selhurst Park. Of course, it has already been announced that Roy Hodgson will be moving on.

But the club also have a number of players out of contract in the coming weeks. So the incoming boss will seemingly have an opportunity to conduct an overhaul of the squad.

Obviously, Smith is unlikely to have his sights on playing in the Premier League immediately should he move.

But with so much interest around, showing him a pathway to the first-team could perhaps prove pivotal.
