Report: Crystal Palace joined by Tottenham in Nathan Ferguson race

According to a report from The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign West Bromwich Albion starlet Nathan Ferguson, with the Spurs scouts raving about the right-back.

Ferguson has been outstanding for the Baggies this term. The 19-year-old has predominantly played at left-back for Slaven Bilic’s side. But his Premier League admirers believe that he could be the answer to their issues on the other flank.

The Sun reports that Crystal Palace are incredibly keen on the teenager. But Tottenham have reportedly joined the race and could now be planning a £10 million bid for the defender.

The Sun adds that West Brom want to keep Ferguson for the season. They sit at the top of the Championship, and clearly feel that keeping the academy graduate will boost their chances of securing promotion. However, the report notes that a January move could still be possible.

The right-back position remains a real problem for Tottenham. Serge Aurier has proved incredibly difficult to rely on, while Kyle Walker-Peters is currently injured.

The likes of Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez have filled in. But it is no surprise that Mauricio Pochettino has set his sights on a new signing.

Some supporters may have their concerns about a move for Ferguson. He had not made his league debut for West Brom before this season. And, after having players fill in at right-back, they may not be best pleased about a target who is currently thriving in another role.

Ferguson is however, naturally a right-back. And his versatility may also appeal to Pochettino. And if there is going to be a good time to give a young player a chance to settle in at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it may be from January onwards with the club’s season still struggling to ignite.
