According to a report from Calciomercato, Crystal Palace are keen on signing West Bromwich Albion midfielder, Matheus Pereira.

It is claimed that the Eagles have put their name in the hat when it comes to the chase for Pereira. The Baggies star is expected to leave the club, with Sam Allardyce failing to keep them in the Premier League.

Just this week, The Express had claimed that the likes of Leeds and West Ham were keen on the Albion star. That report suggested a sale price of around £30m may be on the cards.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson is keen to see his club strengthen the ranks this season. Last summer saw the arrival of Ebere Eze for big money, so Palace aren’t averse to paying for the right player.

Pereira has been a shining light for West Brom despite relegation. He’s hit ten goals in the league, with a further five assists. Albion’s chances of keeping him, then, are slim to say the least.

TBR View: Palace need new players but Pereira would thrive at Leeds United

It’s good for Palace fans to see their club linked with quality players like Pereira but the £30m might be a bit too steep, even for them.

Yes, they need some new talent in the ranks but they need to spend wisely. They can’t afford to get many wrong so a big outlay like this would need to be a considered purchase.

Further, Leeds’ interest also throws a spanner in the works. Marcelo Bielsa is working wonders at Elland Road and Pereira might just fancy the chance of working under the legendary boss.
