Report: Crystal Palace interested in Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley

Crystal Palace are interested in Matt O’Riley with Dougie Freedman watching the Celtic midfielder in Champions League action this week, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (9/10; page 61).

The 21-year-old has proved to be an inspired signing for the Hoops. And he has been in excellent form at the start of this campaign, providing five assists in nine Scottish Premiership games.

He has also featured in Europe’s premier competition and now boasts a handful of caps for Denmark’s under-21s. And with that, he is now attracting attention.

The Sun on Sunday (9/10; page 61) reports that Crystal Palace are monitoring the midfielder. The Eagles are starting to lose hope over the prospect of bringing Conor Gallagher back to Selhurst Park.

And with that, they are keeping an eye on O’Riley. In fact, Freedman watched him in action for the Bhoys against RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

Crystal Palace interested in Matt O’Riley

Celtic fans will be getting used to seeing O’Riley linked with a future Premier League move.

ESPN reported towards the end of the summer transfer window that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all had the youngster on their radar.

He is a ‘wonderful‘ talent with the ability to reach an incredibly high level. Certainly, everything suggests that Celtic are going to be able to make a huge profit on him when the time comes to cash in.

It will be interesting to see what O’Riley makes of the links with Palace. Of course, joining the Eagles may be less appealing on paper than heading to Anfield or the Emirates.

But he will also want to go somewhere where he will play if he leaves Celtic.

Having said that, it may not escape his attention that Odsonne Edouard has not had the best time since making that particular move.

He will surely want to move to the Premier League at some stage. But you would imagine that he is very happy to remain at Celtic while he finds himself on the right path for his development.
