Report: Crystal Palace in talks with Schalke over fee for Kabak
Crystal Palace are reportedly in talks with Schalke over the fee for young ace Ozan Kabak.
According to the Guardian, the south Londoners face competition from several clubs. Schalke are willing to accept a lower fee of £10-12 million rather than the £18m in Kabak’s Liverpool deal.
The defender spent the second half of last season on loan at Liverpool. However, the Reds opted against making his temporary move permanent. Liverpool had the option to sign the Turk for just £18m but declined.
Meanwhile, you could say the Eagles are enduring a bit of a crisis at the back. Following the expiration of Gary Cahill’s and Scott Dann’s contracts, Palace have just two senior centre-halves.
Marc Guehi was signed from Chelsea, but the player is yet to make his debut in the top flight.
Despite not signing him permanently, Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for Kabak, labelling him ‘incredible‘.
Would Kabak be a solid signing for Crystal Palace?
Adding strength and depth is a key part of Patrick Vieira’s job this summer. The Selhurst Park outfit saw plenty of players walk out the door following the expiration of their contract.
Kabak would be a solid signing for Crystal Palace if he arrived. There are two advantages to signing the 21-year-old.
For starters, he is already acclimatised to the Premier League. His loan spell at Anfield will help him settle into the Eagles’ side much easier.
And he is still young.
At 21, the player has plenty of opportunities to develop into a top player. Either benefitting Palace on the pitch, or helping them fetch a handsome fee should they want to sell him in the future.
