Report: Crystal Palace eye 23-year-old Leipzig star
The Athletic claim that Crystal Palace are keen on signing RB Leipzig attacker Ademola Lookman, after an impressive loan at Fulham. The versatile attacker had a hand in eight goals during 35 appearances for the Cottagers, before relegation. He has now returned to Leipzig.
Lookman, 23, joined Leipzig in the summer of 2019 from Everton but has failed to kick on in German football. Having initially signed for Leipzig on loan, he has only ever played 24 times for the Germans. But last season, he reminded all what he is capable of, arguably being Fulham’s best player.
Now back in Germany, he could be on course to join his fourth English club – after spells with Everton and Charlton, as well as Fulham. Patrick Vieira wants the £22.5million (TalkSPORT) ace at Selhurst Park. It remains to be seen if it is on loan, or the price Champions League side Leipzig would sell.
While Palace have let plenty go, do they need Lookman?
Lookman is an incredible talent and if given the game time and momentum, he could go on to really improve Palace’s options in the final third. But Vieira already boasts Wilf Zaha, Ebere Eze and new signing Michael Olise. Is Lookman really a necessity?
With Andros Townsend leaving, signing Lookman could hand Vieira cover. He might even start ahead of Olise, who at 19 is still learning his trade. Zaha is likely to be tempted to stay, given the arrival of Vieira – and the winger being a self-confessed Arsenal fan. A good signing, but not a crucial one.
