Crystal Palace are identifying potential replacements for Roy Hodgson and The Athletic have claimed Patrick Vieira is a potential candidate for the managerial position.
The 73-year-old is out of contract in the summer and the club must decide whether or not to keep him on board. With no extension forthcoming as of yet, plenty of names are under consideration.
Sean Dyche, Eddie Howe, Frank Lampard, Steve Cooper and Valerien Ismael are all named in the report; although Vieira is one name that Palace are contemplating.
The 44-year-old Arsenal legend has been out of work since departing Nice in December and was one of the names touted around for the Bournemouth job earlier this season.
He’s also previously been linked with the jobs at Newcastle and Arsenal and would surely relish the chance to test himself in a Premier League managerial position.
Palace find Vieira’s background interesting and could choose to go down the head coach route should they decide to part with Hodgson at the end of the season.
TBR View: Time for Palace to make an important change
Given the squad at Hodgson’s disposal, it’s perhaps not unfair to say the club is underachieving.
As a result, the time has come to wish Hodgson well and send him on his way during the summer.
With the likes of Howe and Lampard out of work, there are possibilities for the Eagles to make really decent appointments.
Vieira is an interesting name too. He would command respect from the dressing room and has been there and seen it all in the Premier League.
He might not be the first choice among plenty of supporters but with an extensive book of contacts, the taskmaster could be a sound arrival at Selhurst Park.
