According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace and Southampton are keen on signing Watford and England striker, Danny Welbeck.
The report claims that the forward is a wanted man this summer, with both Palace and Watford said to be keen on securing a deal to bring the former Manchester United ace to their clubs.
Welbeck endured a frustrating season for the Hornets last term, scoring just two goals as Watford were relegated back to the Championship following a raft of managerial changes throughout the season.
But Welbeck is seen by many as a capable Premier League player with proven ability at the highest level. Indeed, he has won 42 caps for England and has an impressive goalscoring record having notched 16 times for the Three Lions.
Watford may well be keen to offload Welbeck given their relegation. He reportedly earns £70k-a-week with the Hornets, a wage that will be hard the club to sustain in the second-tier.
More pace for Palace and a suitable deputy for Danny Ings – TBR View
And that’s what Welbeck would be really if he signed for either of these clubs. Palace are desperate for more goals in their team following Christian Benteke’s lack of form and Southampton will need to take the weight off of Ings.
Welbeck is proven in the PL, in fairness to him. He’s played for Man United and Arsenal and done well, before injury seems to have halted his career a bit.
If he can stay fit and get back to those levels, then he’d be a fine signing for both Southampton and Palace.
