Spurs could be without their big-money new signing, Cristian Romero, for the opening day clash with Manchester City in a weeks’ time.
Romero finally completed his move to Tottenham last week, with the club spending near £50m to bring the Argentinian to the club.

However, with the season just a week away – Spurs open their account against Manchester City – it now appears Romero could be missing from action due to injury.
Romero to miss City clash?
Football.London have reported the news. They claim that Romero was signed with a knee injury, and that his precise return date is still unknown.
It’s claimed that Romero picked up a knee injury while playing in the Copa America. Since then, he’s been undergoing recovery work in order to ensure he’s fit for the new campaign. However, it would appear that the opener against City might have come too soon.
Spurs must be sure that the issue is nothing serious. If it does turn out to be more than a niggle, then Spurs will be left with some serious questions to answer.
Work and time needed
While everyone would like to see Romero make his Spurs debut, there’s little point him playing if he’s not had any time on the training pitch.
Nuno Santo will want to embed him in quickly. But you can’t expect someone to simply play against City with nothing in the tank, even if he does prove his basic fitness.
Spurs must have confidence that this injury is the most minor of knocks though. Otherwise, it’s an expensive risk by Fabio Paratici.
