Report: Contract situation means Stade de Reims are open to Arsenal transfer deal for Axel Disasi

Arsenal are reportedly interested in a deal for Stade de Reims centre-back Axel Disasi, according to reports. L’Equipe first reported that the Gunners were keeping track of the player and the Daily Mail have since elaborated on that interest. They claim Arsenal are in talks over a potential £15 million move for the French under-20 international. A five-year deal is said to be on the cards for a player who could eventually partner countryman William Saliba at The Emirates.

Of course, this all depends on Reims actually selling the player. Disasi has helped the former European giants climb to fifth place in Ligue 1, prior to the league’s suspension due to the ongoing global health crisis.

But according to a new report in France, Les Rouges et Blancs are indeed open to selling Disasi this summer.

Foot-Sur7 is reporting that Reims are ready to sell Disasi for one simple reason. The 6ft 3in powerhouse is out of contract in the summer of 2021 and Reims are not in a financial position to allow him to potentially run his contract down and leave on a free next summer.

With that in mind, Reims are said to be very open to discussions regarding his sale.

Arsenal are therefore on a clear path to sign the player who, in the current climate, could end up being a bargain at £15 million.

Arsenal fans will have hoped for more eye-catching arrivals, but it appears Disasi may be the type of player the North London club ends up pursuing in the near future.
