Antonio Conte was told by some close to him not to take the Tottenham Hotspur job before his appointment, with those people thinking that a better opportunity would come along, according to a report from The Athletic.
Spurs look to have an incredibly exciting summer ahead. Victory at Norwich on the final day of the Premier League season ensured that Tottenham finished fourth and booked their ticket to next year’s Champions League.

Conte was cagey about what his future holds. But it is hard to see him wanting to go anywhere if he is backed by Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici in the summer.
And should Conte stay, Tottenham’s ceiling looks incredibly high. He has done a remarkable job to turn their fortunes around and take Spurs into fourth spot.

And with that, Conte will surely feel vindicated for taking the Tottenham job late last year. Certainly, some of those close to him would probably admit that they were wrong to want the Italian to steer clear.
The Athletic reports that some close to Conte told him to give the Tottenham job a swerve. They wanted him to hold out for a better opportunity.
Conte told to not take Tottenham job
Conte had reason to be confident when he took over at Tottenham. Of course, he had already held talks with Spurs earlier in the year. Ultimately, he backed away. And the job went to Nuno Espirito Santo.
By the time Levy got back around the negotiating table, Conte’s position was strengthened.
Tottenham fans know keeping Conte looks to be absolutely crucial too. So there is tremendous pressure on the club’s hierarchy to give him what he wants this summer.
Spurs have a fantastic opportunity. But Conte staying looks absolutely imperative.
