Report: Conte now wants Tottenham to sign 'dream' £50m PL star
Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Tariq Lamptey, with the Daily Express reporting that Antonio Conte’s men are set to do battle with Arsenal for his signature.
Right wing-back looks set to be one area Spurs strengthen during the January transfer window. Recent reports suggested that Conte is already looking for an upgrade on Emerson Royal.
Interestingly, plenty of Tottenham fans suggested that Lamptey would be a fantastic target in reaction to his performance against Chelsea recently. The 21-year-old helped give the Blues a torrid time in Brighton’s 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.
Lamptey looks to be rediscovering his best form. He had been out for a long time with injury. But he is playing regularly again. And he is attracting admiring glances.
Both reports note that the Seagulls want £50 million for Lamptey.
Tariq Lamptey would be upgrade on Tottenham wing-back options
Admittedly, signing Lamptey would come with risk. He would not provide the same physical presence as Emerson. And his injury problems may concern the sides chasing his signature.
However, Lamptey would tick a lot of boxes for Tottenham. He looks considerably better than the former Barcelona man when going forward. And he can play further up the flank.
At 21, it is frightening to think what kind of level he could reach. Graham Potter suggested that he was a dream to work with.
And Tottenham are now hoping that he can become one of the first marquee additions of the Conte era.
