Reports from Italy this weekend have suggested that Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has been in touch with experienced Inter Milan midfielder, Arturo Vidal, about a potential move to England.

La Tercera run the report, claiming that Conte has spoken to Vidal about a potential move to north London. It’s claimed that Vidal hasn’t outright ruled out the move, after become frustrated with life at the San Siro.

Vidal, who is now 34, has experience and success to his name in the world of football. He’s won an astonishing 12 league titles in his career, including five Scudettos and three Bundesliga titles. During that time, he’s enjoyed spells with Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Juventus, while he’s also had success with Chile, winning 131 caps.

Tottenham are expected to back Antonio Conte in January. The Italian has gone on record to say the squad is not quite where he’d like it to be. Vidal, then, might well be someone the new Spurs boss feels he can turn towards.

According to Transfermarkt, Vidal has accumulated more than £67m in transfer fees in his career. His most expensive move came when he swapped Italy for Germany to join Bayern Munich for more than £35m.

TBR’s View: Vidal A Short-Term Option For Tottenham

If Conte wants a midfielder he can trust who can have an immediate impact, Vidal might be his man. But in terms of being a long-term signing, then it seems pointless.

Spurs have some good young players coming through like Oliver Skipp. Of course, Vidal’s experience could help Skipp and others. But on the flip side, Tottenham don’t want to stunt the development of these young players.

For now, Vidal would be a smart addition on a short-term contract. Experience, quality, and crucially, title-winning mindset are all priceless attributes. However, any sort of longer term deal would raise eyebrows among supporters you feel.
