Report: Club think Arsenal genuinely want to sign 'outstanding' star, have sent Edu warning
Sheffield United believe that Arsenal have a genuine interest in signing Sam Johnstone, but also have sent a warning to the North London club, the Sheffield Star say.
Arsenal have been chasing Blades goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for much of the summer so far.
However, recent reports now claim that Arsenal could be turning their attention to bringing in Johnstone from West Bromwich Albion, who was called ‘outstanding’ by Gary Lineker just months ago.
Interestingly, Sheffield United apparently do feel that Arsenal are genuinely interested in Johnstone.
But they also feel that there may be an ulterior motive behind the rumours being leaked.
They feel that the Gunners could be trying to put pressure on them to reduce their asking price for Ramsdale, but have warned Arsenal that whatever they do, this will not be the case.
Blades currently want £40 million for their number one, and if he moved for that fee he could become the most expensive English goalkeeper of all time.
Ramsdale did show signs of promise, particularly towards the back end of last season, which helped him force his way into the England squad for Euro 2020.
But at the current price, Arsenal may well feel that there is better value for money out there – and Johnstone may prove to be a stronger option.
