Celtic have reportedly had a loan offer for Mitchel Bakker knocked back, according to Sky Sports.

However, the Hoops haven’t had the door shut on a prospective deal, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly still open for negotiations, added the report.

Celtic are reported to be looking for a left-back in wake of Jonny Hayes’ departure from Parkhead and Boli Bolingoli’s disciplinary issues.

And with the Bhoys having a good relationship with PSG in recent years, as shown by the Timothy Weah and Odsonne Edouard deals, it appears as though they’re in touch with the French giants once again.

Bakker, a Netherlands youth international who has been nominated for the 2020 Golden Boy award, came through the youth system at Ajax before joining PSG in 2019.

The 20-year-old made five appearances for them last season, including one in Ligue 1 – qualifying for a winner’s medal – and the full game in the finals of the French Cup and the French League Cup.

It’s a little surprising to see Bakker linked with a loan move away from PSG, given he’s rated very highly by Thomas Tuchel and is in with a chance of breaking into the first team.

“He was very reliable and very focused,” Tuchel said after Bakker featured in the 6-1 cup win over Dijon in February, as quoted by Dutch outlet Parool.

“We relied on his ability and he has proven that he can handle the level. He was very, very good. A good performance.”

While this first offer has reportedly been rejected, it looks as though Celtic are still in with a shout, and Bakker would certainly be an amazing addition to Lennon’s squad.
