Report: Club prepared to smash their wage structure to keep 'incredible' Tottenham-linked star

Brentford are prepared to smash their wage structure to keep hold of Christian Eriksen amid links to a return to Tottenham.

The Telegraph claim that the Bees are really looking to push to keep the Dane at the club at the end of his short-term contract.

Tottenham have been linked with a bid to bring the ‘incredible’ Danish playmaker back to north London as they gear their squad up for next season’s Champions League.

Brentford are trying to compete financially with those riches and will hope that Eriksen sticks around after they took a punt on bringing him back into top flight football.

Brentford prepared to smash their wage structure to keep Eriksen

Their report reads: “Brentford are willing to break their wage structure in order to keep Christian Eriksen at the club.

Telegraph Sport understands Brentford have made it clear to the midfielder that they will be willing to make him comfortably the highest-paid player in the squad if he chooses to stay.

Brentford have a tightly-controlled wage bill but feel an exception can be made for Eriksen due to his experience, quality and the fact that it would not require a transfer fee to sign him.

Eriksen is known to feel settled in the area, where he has been living with his family since joining the club earlier this year, and he has fitted in seamlessly with the first-team squad.

It would be quite the story if Eriksen came back to Spurs but it is not quite clear where he would fit into Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation.

As a free transfer, there cannot be too many better options out there on the market this summer.

Spurs have already clinched Ivan Perisic on a free and Fraser Forster is set to follow when his Southampton contract ends too.
