Nottingham Forest expect Tottenham Hotspur to be their biggest competition to buy Djed Spence this summer.

Spence has been described as a hero of Forest’s promotion campaign by WhoScored, with Steve Cooper’s men back in the big time for the first time this century.

Spence is expected to leave Middlesbrough, and the Telegraph claim that Forest are readying themselves for a battle with Spurs.

Antonio Conte can offer him Champions League football, but Spence would play more regularly at the City Ground.

Forest expect Tottenham to bid for Spence

The report reads: “Nottingham Forest expect Tottenham to provide the fiercest competition for Djed Spence this summer after he helped earn promotion to the Premier League.

Spurs are set to step up their attempts to land Spence in a £15million deal from Middlesbrough, his parent club, once they finalise the arrival of Ivan Perisic as a free agent after his contract at Inter Milan ran down.

Forest are interested in turning Spence’s loan into a permanent deal following his successful year in the Championship that ended in play-off glory at Wembley, but they are braced for other clubs to enter the race for the 21-year-old after his campaign in the second-tier.

They are hoping that the prospect of regular game time next season in the Premier League will outweigh being a squad player at a Champions League club. Spence is seen as a player with huge potential in the Italian’s wing-back system.

It seems that Tottenham are not messing about this summer as they look to get a squad together which can match their manager’s ambitions.

Spence is a wanted man and he has a big decision on his hands when the market opens, at what looks like a crossroads for his career.

For now, Forest are celebrating promotion back to the big time but the hard work starts now and they need a squad capable of thriving in the top flight. They will not want to just survive.
