Certain Manchester United figures are against selling Jesse Lingard amid interest from West Ham, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Lingard is entering the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and is wanted at the London Stadium after a magnificent spell on loan last season. He scored nine goals in 16 games, leading to an England recall after two years out of the side.

Paris Saint-Germain have also approached Manchester United to discuss Lingard’s situation and to express their interest. Moving to Le Parc des Princes would reunite the 28-year-old with Ander Herrera, who sealed a free transfer in 2019.

But the MEN claim certain Manchester United figures would find it a ‘genuine wrench’ to sell Lingard this summer. He has been at the Old Trafford side since the age of seven, and club staff were genuinely delighted by his West Ham form.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer only fielded Lingard three times last season before he moved to the capital, each in the cups. But the Red Devils boss maintained a good relationship with the 29-cap international and will hold further talks next month.

Lingard has already admitted to friends that he wants to rebuild his Manchester United career, per The Sun. Even though West Ham would love to take the midfielder back to the London Stadium.

The Hammers value Lingard at around £15-20million, though, which is below the Red Devils’ asking price for any potential deal.

TBR’s view: West Ham face uphill Lingard transfer hopes

West Ham must play a waiting game, with Manchester United not holding talks with Lingard until they regroup for pre-season. But David Moyes faces an even greater uphill task to bring the midfielder back to the London Stadium than waiting.

The Hammers striking a deal for Lingard will be difficult with the midfielder and certain Old Trafford figures eager for him to stay with the club. The Irons would also have some ground to make up with their offer but need funds to sign a striker.

Moyes has a tricky balancing act bringing Lingard back and improving his centre-forward options. The England maestro played a highly influential role in West Ham securing a berth in the Europa League. But he cannot risk not having a striker available in case Michail Antonio sustains any injuries.
