Report: Club director confirms Celtic’s interest 29-goal sensation; they only want £4.2m
VVV-Venlo director Marco Boogers has said that Celtic are eager on the club’s star player Giorgos Giakoumakis.
Speaking to De Limburger, the club official revealed that Celtic are one of the side’s chasing the Greek international.
Giakoumakis was a sensation for Venlo last season as the striker hit 29 goals for the Dutch side.
Despite finishing the season as the Eredivisie top-scorer, Venlo were still relegated to the second-tier of Dutch football.
Indeed, Giakoumakis’ contract due to expire next year. And this summer is the perfect time for the club to offload their prolific attacker.
Celtic are on the hunt for a striker this summer. And Giakoumakis could well be the perfect addition to the club this window.
According to Voetbal Primeur, Venlo value the forward at €5m (£4.2m). Indeed, a fee that low for a striker who last season was one of the top goalscorers in Europe is incredible value for money.
And with the Eredivisie an overall better league than the Scottish Premiership, Giakoumakis could thrive with the Hoops.
With Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou also Greek-born, Giakoumakis will have a familiar face around with him in Scotland should the attacker decide to make the move from Holland to the United Kingdom this window.
