Report: Club decide seven-goal Leeds target can leave on loan; want £15.4m obligation included in deal
Leeds United’s hopes of signing Josip Brekalo appear to have received a boost with Calciomercato. It reporting that Wolfsburg are open to an initial loan that includes an obligation to buy.
Brekalo is attracting a raft of attention after a superb campaign in the Bundesliga.
The Croatia international scored seven goals in the top flight last season. Meanwhile, he also provided three assists as he played all across the forward line.
Previous reports claimed Leeds and Everton wanted the winger. Meanwhile, Roma and Lille have also been linked in the past.
According to Calciomercato. It, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Fiorentina all want the 23-year-old.
Meanwhile, they also claim that Leeds want the youngster. And interestingly, Wolfsburg are reportedly open to an initial loan.
The report suggests they would want any deal to include an obligation to buy for around £15.4 million (€18 million).
Loan deal for Brekalo could be shrewd move from Leeds
For some Leeds fans, a loan with an obligation to buy will evoke memories of the deal to sign Helder Costa.
On that occasion, the Whites committed to signing the winger at the end of his loan.
Costa has arguably not yet lived up to expectations – despite some incredibly bright moments. But a move for Brekalo could be a good piece of business.
He only started 22 times in the top flight last year. So his return of seven goals seems incredibly impressive.
He offers the kind of versatility that Marcelo Bielsa would surely appreciate. He played on both wings and up front last season.
And with clubs such as Atletico, Inter and Fiorentina also in the running, it could prove to be a real coup if Leeds could be the ones to land Brekalo on loan.
