Salernitana are now accelerating their attempts to sign Tottenham starlet Pape Matar Sarr on loan this month, as per Italian outlet Salernitana News.

The big problem they face is that Antonio Conte has recently said publicly he does not want to loan out Sarr, Bryan Gil or Oliver Skipp.

Conte said: “We exploited the period of the World Cup to work with these young players to improve themselves under the tactical aspect and physical aspect.

“Now they stay with us in the squad. I don’t want to send these young players on loan because the league is very difficult.

“We have to play Champions League, we have to play FA Cup. I think these young players can stay here to help us face these three competitions.”

Salernitana pushing hard to convince Tottenham to loan out Sarr

That has seemingly not put the Italian club off trying to land Sarr, who was largely outside Conte’s plans until recent games.

Conte’s new stance on Gil and Sarr may force some clubs to reconsider their transfer plans if he holds firm on it until the deadline.

It seems Conte wants Sarr to continue learning at Spurs, rather than going out somewhere where he would play games but at a lesser club.

Salernitana really want to add another central midfielder to their squad before the end of the transfer window, but they may need to look elsewhere.

Or, perhaps Spurs will look at things again before the end of the transfer window, depending on who they manage to get through the door themselves.

Either way, Salernitana can try as hard as they like to loan Sarr and get the deal done swiftly, but if Spurs, Conte and Daniel Levy hold firm, there is not much they can do.
